In the Spotlight ~ Lace and Lavender

Hi everyone, it's Wednesday and that means a new post of "In the Spotlight", today we feature Sarah from Lace and Lavender... I grabbed this from her blog so you can learn a bit more about her...

"I started this blog in April 2012; so yeh, I'm pretty new at blogging but I'm learning the ropes...slowly. I'm a huge fan of literature, and will read just about anything (so long as its good) from Harry Potter to Macbeth. I'm the type of person that could literally lose themselves in a bookstore; its almost like my version of an Amusement Park (I'm not really a huge fan of rollercoasters). In addition to reading I enjoy writing poetry, jogging, and treating myself to spa moments (sometimes there is nothing more soothing than a face mask or painting your nails). I'm really excited about this whole blogging thing and can't wait to share my book reviews and spa tips!"

Welcome Sarah!!!

When and how did you decide to become a book blogger?
I think I’ve always been a writer and between school and life I realized I wasn’t writing nearly as much as I wanted to. Around the same time I also noticed that it was taking me two or three months to finish one book because reading wasn’t as big of a priority in my life anymore. So, I decided that if I started a book blog, I would both read more books and be able to write more (about those books).

What’s the hardest part of being a book blogger?
Being a relatively new blogger, I can definitely say that one of the hardest parts of blogging for the past couple months was learning how to design my blog. Not having any followers for the first month or so was even harder than learning how to blog, I felt as if no one was reading my posts; mainly because they weren’t. When you don’t have anyone reading your posts and the majority of your views are from you accidentally clicking on your blog yourself, it can be very disheartening. But now that things are picking up (I can’t believe it but I’m over 100 followers!) my biggest difficulty is trying to manage my review list; there are just too many books I want to read and review!

What do you do when you are not blogging?
When I’m not blogging, I’m either reading, writing poetry, or studying for school.

You have a catchy name for your blog, tell us how you came up with the name, Lace and Lavender?
Lace is very elegant and classic, a sort of timeless tribute to femininity through the ages. Lavender is one of my favourite colours. To me the colour lavender exudes calm; it is both a soothing and thoughtful; kind of like me. Together they make a classic, calmly thoughtful pair.

What genre(s) do you read, can you tell us what is it about the genre(s) that grabs your interest?
I don’t think I could ever confine myself to reading a single genre; I read just about everything! But I suppose if I narrowed it down, my top three favourite genres would be historical romance, classics, and young adult. I am a hopeless romantic; there is no one in the world that could ever possibly convince me there is no such thing as true love, so you can see my attraction to historical romance. I also love living (if only temporarily) in bygone eras, ehich both historical romance and classics allow me to do. Classics provide a window into what people’s lives were like in the past and their commentaries about their societies and beliefs which are both consciously or subconsciously woven into their novels are fascinating. As for young adult, I like how most young adult books have a super natural twist and are easy to read; they provide a nice mental break.

Who are your three favorite authors?
Eloisa James (Historical Romance)

J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter)

Cassandra Clare (Young Adult)

Which author would you most like to meet (dead or alive)? Tell us more…
I would like to meet James Joyce because his book The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, had a bigger impact on me than I ever would have thought possible both as a writer and a person. I think that to be able to write a novel as he did, where prose verges on poetry is the mark of a truly gifted writer; it would be truly fascinating to hear his opinions and inspirations first hand.

How big is your TBR pile? How many books do you read/review in a month?
Right now my TBR pile is about 5 books long, though the number of books I would like to read is infinitely longer. I generally review about 4 books a month or a book a week.
