With her pale hair and slim figure, Olivia Donovan looks as fragile as fine china, and has been treated as such by her sisters ever since a childhood bout with malaria. But beneath her delicate facade, Olivia guards a bold, independent spirit and the kind of passionate desires proper young ladies must never confess...
It was a reckless wager, and one Max couldn't resist: seduce the alluring Olivia or forfeit part of his fortune. Yet the wild, soon-to-be Duke never imagined he'd fall in love with this innocent beauty. Nor could he have guessed that a dangerously unpredictable rival would set out to destroy them both. Now, Max must beat a Madman at his own twisted game-or forever lose the only woman to have ever won his heart.

My Thoughts:

The cover is the first thing that caught my eye, the coloring, the gown, all made me immediately think of romance. I received this books as an advance copy and I was not aware at the time that this was part of a series, A Donavan Novel. The author provided a background of what had transpired so I did not feel lost. I would have liked to see more on Serena (Meg) so I could understand her relationship with Langley, there I did feel like I was missing the "big picture". Suffice to say, I will be purchasing the first book, Confessions of an Improper Bride, in the series so I can come full circle with the series.

Well let's get on with my thoughts…If you are a follower of mine on goodreads, you know that I updated my reading status on this book earlier on.. "I'm reading Secrets of an Accidental : Not connecting~not holding my attention. It may be set in Regency era but reads more modern day."  I was going to put it down and move on to the next book in my pile, but I saw some great reviews on this book I knew I needed to give it a second chance. And am I so happy I did, it was right after I wrote my status update that the storyline captured me and didn't let me go until I read the last line.

This book went from 0 to 60 in no time flat. My head was spinning with everything that was going on, there was a the heroine's life threatening illness, a wager on seducing the heroine, not one but two kidnappings, the heroine went from a from virgin to an insatiable lover, there was an abused wife, a rape, a miscarriage, oh my... And without giving too much away, by far the most evilest villain I have read in a historical romance.

I would recommend this book, but be forewarned it starts off slow and a bit confusing and then it goes into overdrive. You will enjoy it!!

I received this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
