My Thoughts:

This was my first from Tess Dare and it won't be my last. Refreshing author spinning a unique tale, I couldn't put this down!!

The passion between Miranda and Colin sizzle from the start and continues on until the last page, Tessa Dare delivers a spicy romance you won’t want to put down. She spins a tale of two people who couldn’t be more opposite from one another, but who fall in love despite themselves. They try to fight the attraction but ultimately; they finally realize they were made for each other.

Minerva is your typical bluestocking girl, who is outshined by her beautiful sister. She is somewhat of an outcast, her own mother talks about her, even when she is in front of her! Minerva is seeking acceptance, maybe not from her family but from those who share her love of geology. It seems our Minerva has uncovered a footprint of what appears to be a prehistoric reptile, which she named ‘Francine’. She plans on traveling to Scotland to present her findings at a geology symposium. But she is smart enough to know she can’t travel alone, now can she just convince Lord Payne to accompany her…

Colin is exactly the kind of man every woman would fall in love with! He is sexy and slightly scandalous. Colin sees another part of Minerva that surprises him and sparks his interest. He sees the beauty in her curious mind and her independent spirit.

From the start you knew that Colin loved teasing her, it was also cute how he called her every name except Minerva…

“I must say, Melinda. This is rather a surprise.”
“My name’s Minerva.”
“Yes, of course.” He cocked his head. “I didn’t recognize your face without the book in front of it.”
She exhaled, letting her patience stretch. And stretch.

“I’ll admit,” he said, “this is hardly the first time I’ve answered the door in the middle of night and found a woman waiting on the other side. But you’re certainly the least expected one yet.”
A midnight seductress she was not. “This isn’t that kind of visit.”
“Give me a moment to absorb the disappointment.”

I couldn’t help but chuckle over their banter, and you don’t want to miss their “tit for tat” discussion, it was hilarious. You will love the great improvising of Colin, as he spins his own tales to those they meet while traveling.

There were some wonderful secondary characters which added to this storyline. I liked Kate Taylor; she seemed like someone who begged to have her story told…

Through their journey Minerva and Colin heal each other, more specifically they “complete each other”. I was very satisfied with this wonderful, touching, beautifully written story about two people, giving each other hope, acceptance, happiness and the freedom to love.

You will not be disappointed with this book if you love a romantic story of two seemly opposite people who bring out the best in each other. You simply must get this book!! Tessa, I look forward to reading more of your books.

My Thoughts:

This book captivated me right from the start. It hooked me from the first page and I ~~didn’t~~ couldn’t put it down until I read the last page. I am not sure my review will do this book justice. Let me give it a try, though.

I selected this book not knowing that it was part of a series, actually this is book three in The Sons of the Revolution. I would not have known until I came toward the end of the book, even then the author gave you enough of a background that I didn’t feel lost at all. I have to say this book gave my sexy Highlanders a run for their money, who knew that privateers could be this HOT!! This book had it all, and quite frankly it is on my top ten list for 2012 ~ and it is only February! I don’t think I ever used this many adjectives in describing one book, but this has revenge, betrayal, swashbuckling swordplay, kidnapping, murder and sizzling passionate romance.

The author wrote an excellent depiction of the adventures on the high seas. The fight scenes were nail biting and you felt that you were a stow away witnessing the fights first handed. Luckily I didn’t get sea sick.

How could you not fall in love with Bastien aka Captain Cutlass, he was a small boy when he was force to leave his beloved home. Everyone he ever loved, besides his trusted family friend Gaston, has died. His heart was hardened, it was better if he never loved again. And he tempted fate every chance he could. That all change when he ran smack dab into his cabin girl ~ Raeven.

"Perhaps, it is time that you stop looking for ways to die and start looking for how you can live" Gaston

Raeven is a feisty, strong willed heroine. She was raised on the sea, and she has a way of finding herself in a bind or two throughout the book. But she is resourceful, you can find her either firing a cannon, picking a lock or throwing knives.

I laughed, I cheered, I cringed and I cried reading this book. Shana Galen delivered a kick ass, steamy tale. I recommend this to everyone. You must buy this!!

When and how did you decide to become a book blogger?
I started by blog about three years ago because I was home with my two sons and when they would nap I had a bit of free time so I thought 'why not try writing up reviews?' (Looking back, I really don't know what I was thinking, lol)

What’s the hardest part of being a book blogger?
For me it is just trying to keep up. My work and kids don't allow me to post as much as I would like as they don't allow me as much time as I would like to read and write up reviews :)

I love your blog's name, Rogues Under the Covers, how and why did you come up with that name?

Actually, when I started my blog I had it titled 'Under the Covers' which I got from Toni Blakes Destiny series (its the name of the fictional bookstore). But then I started working again so my time to read and blog cut way down until this past year when I was able to make some time for both again. However, I came to notice there is another, quite bigger, blog also called 'Under the Covers' and I wanted to adjust my name to separate from them and since I mainly read historicals now, I stuck Rogues in front and it seems to be working for me. I didn't want to change the URL as I have some quotes on authors sites and I wanted them to still be directed back to my site (that is the BEST part of reviewing for me...seeing that an author took the time to read my review and post a bit of it on their website! It makes me so happy write up reviews)

How did you start your "historical romance binge"?
Well, you can blame Goodreads and Sarah MacLean for that :) I was reading mainly contemporaries and never really gave a thought to reading historicals (why I never know as the BBC Pride & Prejudice is my favorite movie) but so many of my non-historical readers were reading this book called Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake that I decided to give it a try. Yeah, I devoured it in a day (which is really really hard for me to accomplish!) and I have not looked back. I love the rakes, the history, the rules of society, everything :)

How do you keep in touch with your followers? Any tips?

Since Google is changing there Google Friend Connect feature I have added a 'follow by email' link and I also have my twitter link posted. You can still follow by GFC by clicking at the very top left 'follow' button, but in the future you need to have a Google blog to follow (I think, which is very annoying!) I do not have a Facebook page at the moment, but I am considering it for the future.

I have found a great way to have visitors is to participate in a blog hop. The only one I do weekly right now is called Waiting On Wednesday, which is hosted by Breaking the Spine. Each week you post a book you are looking forward to and you post your link on Breaking the Spines linkey list and you can visit lots of other sites and in return get visitors to your own site. Again, posting to Twitter is a great way to get visitors and if you are comfortable tagging the author, sometimes the author will retweet your review to all of their followers, which is always so appreciated by me :)

Who are your three favorite authors?
Thats like asking which of my kids I love more, lol! Some of my auto buys are, obviously, Sarah MacLean. Also Shana Galen for her wit, intrigue and romance. I also love Elizabeth Hoyt for her deliciously hot books set in some unique locations in London. There are so many more that I auto buy and I have so many more to discover as I have years and years of books to catch up on!

Any words of wisdom to new bloggers?
I have found Twitter to be a great way to connect with authors and fellow bloggers alike. Try to go around to as many other blogs as you can and make yourself known (this is personally a goal of mine as I hope to increase my own blog followers and I need to dedicate more time to this). And just make sure the blog reflects you and what you like to read, etc. Reviews are always your personal thoughts so don't be afraid to express them.

Which author would you most like to meet (dead or alive)? Tell us more..
Wow, hmmm...well, any of my three mentioned above would be awesome! I'm not to particular really, I would love to meet any author that I have read and enjoyed their work. To me they are all mini-celebrities :) It would be so much fun to travel back in time and talk with Jane Austen or Lewis Carroll just to see how they created some of the most memorable literary characters.

How big is your TBR pile? How many books do you read/review in a month?
Big. Very big, lol :) At least 100 physical books plus at least that much on my Kindle. I read about 12-15 books a month and my reviews vary depending on how many are ARCs versus regular books and how my real life is treating me. I usually write about 10 reviews a month. My work also allows me to listen to around 4 books a month as well.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Umm, I don't know? I'm a very quiet and private person (thats another hard thing about blogging for me--speaking up) so something along the lines of... Unsuspecting Book Lover? LOL. I really don't know, I'm not that creative either sometimes!

On a Personal Note:

My name is Lisa and I work from home doing data entry (love working from home and the flexibility it provides but hate not talking to any adults day after day). I have two sons, ages 5 1/2 and 4 that occupy my days and are the loves of my life even as they drive me bonkers! I have been engaged to their dad for close to eight years and been with him ten. One of these days we will make it legal :) I refer to him as my hubby online just because its easier and he feels like it anyways. I am a huge Packer fan so on game days you will see me tweeting about the game. I live in Southern Wisconsin and I hate winter and was so happy it had not snowed and now that it has...I still hate it :) Kids love it though. My favorite part of the day is when the boys finally go to bed and I can get an hour or two of reading in before I have to go to bed since my kids have no clue what sleeping past 6 am means!

Ten things I Wish I’d Known About Being An Author

1. That it could take many, many rewrites to get the story just right. And some of those rewrites might be huge, gigantic beasts, but they will also make your book stronger.

2. That I had a lot to learn about...everything. Characters, settings, plot, conflict, emotion, editing, revisions, submitting, and—OMG!—rejection all come with a steep learning curve.

3. That writing isn’t the only job an author does. Oh, if only it were that simple! LOL. We also edit, network, book-keep and promote.

4. That even if you “tell” people that you have office hours (aka uninterrupted writing time) they won’t really believe you because your “office hours” take place on a couch or at the kitchen table. Don’t make me screen your call… You’ve been warned.

5. That yes, I’m working even though I haven’t gotten “paid” yet. Generally speaking you don’t sell the book until you’ve written it. But let me assure you, that click-y thing I do with my fingers on the laptop keyboard is still work.

6. That people would look at you a little different when you tell them you're a writer—of romance. (Yep, I write romance-y stuff while the kids are at school. Some times that includes a sexytime scene. Don’t fall over fainting. It’ll be okay.) I’m not sure if authors of other genres get The Look when you tell them what you write, but if you write romance, you get The Look.

7. That people would constantly ask me how my books are selling. Oh man! If only I knew. Most of us don’t know our numbers until months later when we see a royalty statement. Not to mention those sales numbers are in constant motion, never staying the same for long. Lots of sales or little sales, I’m just happy that people are picking up my book and taking this ride with me.

8. I wish I’d known just how much “information” is out there once you start looking. Seems like everyone has an opinion on publishing, writing, promo, social networking... The list goes on and on. It can be very daunting and overwhelming once you start wading through all that info. I wish I’d know that I didn’t have to try and listen to every piece of advice written. It’s impossible since most of it contradicts the rest anyways.

9. I wish I’d know just how important it was to connect with other writers right off the start. I was lucky and happened to find my critique partner fairly quickly. But even still I had already been writing my first novel for a few months. Once I started chatting with her and then joining RWA groups, a whole new world opened up to me!

10. I wish I’d known how fulfilling it would be to actually be an author. A real paid author. With books for sale and everything. LOL. Coming up with ideas, writing them down, manipulating the words until they feel just right, and then sending the book out to get contracted all felt amazing. But once I saw my first book for sale…well, I’m a writer and I still have no words for how truly awesome that felt.

“Gavin, can I get your help in here for a minute?”

She heard a loud groan and the chair in the waiting room squeaked as he stood. Her door clicked open and Gavin peeked his head inside the tiny room. His tired eyes instantly lit up at the sight of her reflection in the mirror. Exactly the kind of reaction she hoped an outfit like this would stir in someone. Especially someone as hot as Gavin.

“Can you lace up the back for me? It’s a bit tricky to reach.”

“Um—sure,” he said quietly, taking the edges of the material from her hands. His gaze shifted to her back and she was suddenly aware of the lack of clothing between her skin and his fingers.

Apparently he was aware of her naked flesh too.

His large fingers fumbled with the laces almost letting them slip. She quickly held the top tight against her stomach so it wouldn’t fall to the ground. Not that a situation like that would be completely unwelcome with a guy like Gavin, but she’d prefer not to have it happen in a changing room if possible. Her hotel room?

Well, that was different.

Why was she so attracted to him?

‘Cause he’s hot. And fights back. And hot.

I enjoyed this book, and I know you won't be disappointed either. The heroine, Tali was complex, on the outside she appeared to be a self centered spoiled brat, but on the inside, once you start peeling back the layers she is funny, kind and very insecure. She has always placed her families needs before her own. So much that she found herself in a relationship that was one side, he was with her so he could worm himself up the corporate ladder in her family's business. Tali, simply wanted to be loved for who she is, problem was she just forgot who that really was.

Enter Gavin, the sexy pilot who saw the real Tali, he knew there was something more than the outside layers, but could he chisel away to get her to see her inner beauty? She had all the traits to make him dislike her, she was a shopaholic, living off daddy's money and bitchy but he also saw a caring, funny, sexy woman. I loved the fact that Gavin didn't give up on her, he was pushing her to be the "real" Tali by constantly giving her pep talks. He kept telling her to stand up for herself, to take life in your own hands, "be who you really are for once and stop hiding and blaming others for her place in life." Sometimes it is hard to hear and accept the truth about oneself but hard love is what she needed to begin to love herself.

“You were right about me. I wasn’t being honest with myself or my family about what I really wanted in life. I tried to live a lie that would never make me truly happy. You—you showed me I can be who I really am and it’s okay. That’s why I’m going to tell my father he needs to find someone to replace me. I won’t be taking over the job of running the company.”

I just loved how they completed one another, it was a cute, romantic tale one that you don't want to miss out on. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My Thoughts:

I was looking forward to another visit into the McDougal's family. There are five close knit sisters that make up this family, each coming back to help and deal with their father's recent death. This time it is Margot and her sheriff man, Roy's story.

I didn't like the underlying storyline, if you are desperately in love and this person is your rock, your support when faced with a devastating life event, why would you keep them a secret. Why not celebrate your love with your family!!

The one man who captured her heart five years earlier, the one man who has since been the plumb line for every other unsuspecting male who has crossed her path. This week I am excited to have Nat from Reading Romances here "In the Spotlight". It was exactly a year ago that I met Nat, she was hosting a forum for book lovers that I joined. If you keep up with my blog, you would remember that Nat is the one who introduced me to historical romance when she decided to have a reading challenge on her forum. My first historical romance book was Julia Quinn's ~ The Duke and I.

Nat has really exploded in the blogging world, some of you already know her from her wonderful blog hops she hosts. And from time to time I pop over and provide a guest review on her site.

When and how did you decide to become a book blogger?
It started when I was part of a book discussion forum and through them I found out how many cool blogs there are out there. I was fascinated and wanted to give it a go. Turns out I feel in love with blogging and now my blog is nine months old (my baby!).

What’s the hardest part of being a book blogger?
I think that the hardest part is when blogging when you don't feel like it. When you're tired and you have to stay up late finishing a review cause have to post it in the morning! It's a job, and something I LOVE doing, but it's a lot of work.

My Thoughts:

This was an enjoyable read. A touching tale of a daughter (Venus) to prove her father’s innocence against all odds. And, a man (Connor) who wants to reunite the two most important people in his life. For each of them to be successful~ they need each other. The two have a love hate relationship, until they finally admit their true feelings for one another.

When and how did you decide to become a book blogger?
I was posting my reviews on B&N and Goodreads, when a friend online suggested I start a book review blog and begin receiving ARC’s. It was suggested at a perfect time in my life. I have two children in college and one in high school, and my days as a soccer Mom are rapidly coming to a close. I found myself with a lot more free time and to be honest I was a little lonely.

What’s the hardest part of being a book blogger?
Eek! Saying No, to wonderfully promising author’s who want you to review their novel and sending a letter to an author stating you gave their book a two.

This is a multiple question: How many followers do you have? How did your blog get so popular? How long did it take to rise to that level?
If I add all the options to follow me…I have around 1100 followers. I began my blog on August 11, 2011. I had two followers, who told two followers, who told…….you get the point. I set up a Facebook page and twitter account and shared it with my family and friends. They helped me reach my first twenty-five followers and from there it grew. I also follow blogs and comment on them, others see it and stop by my blog. I made friends on Goodreads and shared my skills with them and vice-versa. More importantly, I give the best, honest review that I can. I avoid spoilers and I always take the time to comment back. I never want my blog to become so big that I no longer can connect with my followes. I love books, talking about and sharing them…….I think that comes across on my blog and its help it grow.

I love your blog's name, Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, how and why did you come up with that name?
Ok, first I wanted something that was a reflection of me. Coffee to me is the nectar of the Gods. I love it, love it, love it!! As for Kimba, I was using it as a user name on B&N and Goodreads, since it was a nickname my father gave me. My first name is Kimberly and he called me, Kimba, after the Golden book with the title Kimba the White Lion. It is also a Japanese Anime cartoon. It’s unique and my followers seem to love that and my coffee cup rating system..LOL

What is your preferred reading device, a Kindle or a Nook (or another electronic book reader), or do you prefer reading a traditional book?
I have a nook original and recently received a Nook Tablet. I absolutely love it. Since I read an awful lot of books and series, and I wanted to be able to carry them everywhere; it was important to me, that it have an expandable memory. I also wanted to be able to get books from the library, goggle and book depository. With nook I am able to do all of it. I can even watch Supernatural and Dr. Who on it. J All of the e-readers on the market today are great, you just need to find the one that works for you.

Who are your three favorite authors?
Only 3 *gasps, and sighs* This is such a tough question for me, since I read so many genres -Kat Richardson author of the Greywalker series, Tahereh Mafi author of Shatter Me and Harper Lee author of To Kill a Mockingbird are on my list of top 100 authors at the moment.

Any words of wisdom to new bloggers?
Review books you enjoy old and new, be honest with your reviews but respectful when giving a bad review. If you do not like something about a book, say so but also say why and if you can, say what would have made it better. Network, and most of all have fun sharing books!

Which author would you most like to meet (dead or alive)? Tell us more..
Wow, you really want to make me think this morning..Hmm Harper Lee for sure. I loved her book and wish she had written more. I’d like to know about her life. I’d also like to meet Jayne Anne Krentz, aka. Amanda Quick, aka. Jayne Castle. She writes the Arcane Society (paranormal series). It is fascinating to me how she writes with three names, each in different period. Her, Amanda Quick novels take place in the past. Krentz is contemporary and Castle is futuristic. The cool thing is that all of these tales tie together.

How big is your TBR pile? How many books do you read/review in a month?
*fidgets in her seat uncomfortably* Do we really have to talk about that..I mean doesn’t everyone have a room full of books, buy a dozen or so a month and have seven hundred or so on their e-reader????

I read/review between 15 and 25 books a month. It depends on how many ARC’s I have accepted.

Finally, if someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be a best seller. I live an ordinary life. I’d like to think a good one. My family is very important to me and that has been the focus of my life. My nest will be empty in a few years as my youngest enters college……..so I will have an opportunity to do more things…who knows maybe I’ll do something interesting! Right now, I guess the title would be She lived, She loved, She Hoped (She read a lot!!)

On a Personal Note:

I have been married for twenty-five years to my best friend who indulges my love of books. He has sat patiently many times, while I finish that last chapter. We have three beautiful children and currently live in the Midwest, USA. I was born in New Jersey and have lived in Florida and Virginia.

Welcome Manda!! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog to chat about your book. Congrats on the release tomorrow-of your debut historical romance novel, ‘How to Dance with a Duke'! (Ugly Ducklings #1- Book 1, St. Martin's Press) I am so happy to have you here!

FBL ♥: Can you tell me and the readers how it feels and what it means to you to have your debut novel hitting the shelves tomorrow?
Manda: It’s almost indescribable. I’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time. I only started writing seriously a few years ago, but I’ve been toying with the idea since I was in college many moons ago. And I’ve been reading romance since I was thirteen years old. So it’s pretty amazing to know that I’m finally going to see a book I’ve written on the library or the bookstore shelf.

FBL ♥: I absolutely love the cover. It's GORGEOUS! I love the coloring and the dress is to die for. She looks peaceful and yet mischievous; makes me want to find out what she's thinking. What are your thoughts on the cover and what was it like when you first saw the finished product?
Manda: I adore this cover. I love how saucy but sweet Cecily looks on it. I love that it’s a cover my grandmother can look at without falling into a swoon. And I love how utterly naughty it is without being vulgar. Plus, the heroine’s gown is period appropriate which can be pretty rare on a Regency cover these days. I cannot tell a lie. When I came back from lunch and opened my email to find this image waiting for me, I cried a little. There are so many firsts that come with becoming an author, but seeing your cover for the first time has to be one of the most overwhelming.

FBL ♥: Give us five words to describe “How to Dance with a Duke”.
Manda: Mysterious. Playful. Romantic. Exciting. Healing.

FBL ♥: Tell us about the day of “The Call". Was there Dancing? Screaming? Champagne popping?
Manda: I got the call and missed it! I was brushing my teeth and I thought I heard my cell phone ring, but I thought it was just wishful thinking on my part. So I finished getting dressed and went off to work. Two things told me that I was about to get big news. One was an email from my agent with the subject line: CALL ME!!! And the other was the Twitter notification that my editor had started following me. I called my agent, she told me the good news, and there was much quiet squeeing. (I work as an academic librarian by day so I couldn’t give in to the urge to really shout out my joy until later in the car.)

FBL ♥: Your debut novel is such a wonderful blend of historical fiction, romance, and mystery. What inspired you to take on such a layered project?
Manda: I’ve always been a big fan of mysteries and romantic suspense, so when I started writing it was always with a mystery as well as a romance in mind. I was a huge fan of Nancy Drew when I was growing up, so I wondered what would happen if I created a trilogy around three cousins with a similar dynamic to Nancy’s with her friends Bess and George only set during the Regency era, and without all of the social cachet Nancy seemed to have. What you end up with is The Ugly Ducklings, three cousins who fall in love and solve mysteries over a three book arc.

FBL ♥: The book has a rather unique theme centered around Egyptology. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
Manda: The Regency is well known for its Egyptian craze. During the Napoleonic wars there were competing expeditions between the English and the French in a race to see who would uncover the most antiquities and bring them back to Europe. When I was brainstorming about Cecily, I knew that she had to be a bluestocking, and since languages were a field that a lady could study without too much scandal befalling her, I made her a linguist. In turn, I needed a reason for Cecily and Lucas to need to work together. Having his brother serve as her father’s secretary on expeditions to Egypt was a useful way to do that. I also needed her to have a skill that Lucas would need to help him find his brother, so being able to translate her father’s journals would give her that. The rest, just fell into place.

FBL ♥: How do you develop your plot & characters? Do the characters come to you looking for their story to be told or do you get an idea and then find the right characters to tell it?
Manda: I started off thinking in terms of the entire trilogy first. Which meant I would need three very different heroines and three very different heroes. Cecily was the one who came to me first. I knew that I wanted to write a bluestocking. And I knew that she would need a hero who was, in the immortal words of Sheryl Crow “strong enough to be her man.” Who better to match wits with a woman who knows she’s smarter than most of the men she meets, than a former military hero? And the chemistry took off from there.

FBL ♥: While reading the book, you gave the readers a quick hint of something brewing between Lord Deveril and one of the Cecily’s cousins, “I have an interest in one of Miss Hurston’s cousins.” Can you give us a preview of what’s next in the Ugly Duckling series?
Manda: The next of the Ducklings to get her story is Juliet. Though I won’t say just yet who her hero is. You can figure it out if you check out my website;) Juliet has had a difficult time of it these past few years. Her mother is terrible. Her father doesn’t pay her very much attention. And though she’s a gifted musician she would rather fade into the background than shine in the spotlight. And she never, ever, likes to ask for help. But when her musical mentor goes missing, she’ll have to accept help from someone she never thought she’d talk to, much less join forces with.

FBL ♥: Get to Know You… Can you please tell us a little-known fact about yourself?
Manda: When I was in middle school, the TV show THE MONKEES was enjoying a renaissance. And I was one of it’s most adoring fans. Only problem was that they were all pretty old at that point, so I was totally crushing on the 1960s era Monkees and not their 1980s selves. My favorite? Davy Jones, because, natch he was British ;)

Manda Collins spent her teen years wishing she’d been born a couple of centuries earlier, preferably in the English countryside. Time travel being what it is, she resigned herself to life with electricity and indoor plumbing, and read lots of books. An affinity for books led to a graduate degree in English, followed by another in Librarianship. By day, she works as an academic librarian at a small liberal arts college, where she teaches college students how to navigate the tangled world of academic research. A native of coastal Alabama, Manda lives in the house her mother grew up in with three cats, sometimes a dog, sometimes her sister, and always lots of books

My Thoughts:

The story line intrigued me, it had a unique blend of historical fiction, romance and mystery. Manda Collins, is an amazing story teller, “How to Dance with a Duke” pulled me in from the very beginning and I was hooked all the way to the last page.

Her writing in some ways reminded me of Julia Quinn, more for her quick oneliners. I found myself chuckling out loud. I enjoyed the way her writing amused me all the way through, and the same time she was able to spin a mystery which kept me guessing . I thought I knew who was behind it and she proved me wrong. It was thrilling to see everything unfold and surprised me to find out who the “villain” was.

My Thoughts:

The cover is the first thing that caught my eye, the coloring, the gown, all made me immediately think of romance. I received this books as an advance copy and I was not aware at the time that this was part of a series, A Donavan Novel. The author provided a background of what had transpired so I did not feel lost. I would have liked to see more on Serena (Meg) so I could understand her relationship with Langley, there I did feel like I was missing the "big picture". Suffice to say, I will be purchasing the first book, Confessions of an Improper Bride, in the series so I can come full circle with the series.

My Thoughts:

First, let me say what a beautiful cover!! I loved many aspects of this book, but there were many things that I didn't. The storyline was unique~ Two characters who fall deeply, passionately in love with each other despite the fact they were both fighting for different sides of the war.

I developed a love-hate relationship with the heroine, Julianne, she was a strong willed, opinionated young woman. Even when she finds herself on the wrong end of the law, Julianne maintains her independent spirit, growing stronger in her beliefs. With that said, I was disappointed that her character, who was "madly in love" would betray her lover. I get the whole woman scorned thing, but it made me think less of her character. There was kidnapping, revenge, even the servants got into the act of deceit and lies when accusing Elspeth of being a witch. Without giving too much of the story away, you will be taken an a rollercoaster ride, which when it stops you have to catch your breathe and sigh when Elspeth and Rob finally find their Happy Ever After.

My Thoughts:
This book combines two of my favorite things: cooking and romance. My mouth was watering reading about all the delicious dishes that were being cooked, I would have loved to see some of the recipes either included in the back or maybe even at the beginning of each the chapters. I would have liked to try my hand at some of them.

Although, I am savvy enough around the kitchen, I am not up on much of the lingo used in the "kitchen". I was confused on some of the wording used, which I can only ascertain are found in many diners and restaurants. Unless the reader has ever worked in those environments or watches Gordon Ramsay some of the slang used was hard to decipher. Fortunately with my kindle I was able to search for "Diner Lingo" to help me along. The term "in the weeds" was used more than once, until I looked up the meaning, I thought the characters were indulging in marijuana to keep their appetites stimulated. Silly me.!!

2011 was a great year for both me and my blog. It was my first year blogging and I am so grateful to everyone out there who follows and reads this blog. In just this short time, I reached 3700 page views.

2012 is going to be even better! I look forward to another great year of blogging!
I will be adding some extra features to this blog in the next few weeks, I am thrilled to say that I will begin hosting blog tours here on Forever Book Lover. I have my first one scheduled on February 13th. I would love to have you all stop by during these tours and check out the tour schedules, there will be some great blogs participating. Not only will there be reviews but I will have guest post, interviews, and giveaways.

FBL ♥: Do you have a list of character names to choose from, or do names come as your characters are created?

Lecia: I used to make lists, thinking I’d use a particular name someday, but I still end up searching for the perfect name for my characters every time I start a new project. Once I find the name that fits, be it Phineas or Gilbert of Sinjon, they just couldn’t be anyone else. I get inspiration from lots of places. I look at the mastheads of British magazines, read movie credits, and even check phone books and maps for ideas.

FBL ♥: Do your personal relationships influence those of your characters?

Lecia: My daughter is a beautiful redhead, and my heroines often have red hair, but I try to keep the people I love separate from my work. If I put them in my stories, I’d never get invited anywhere and I’d probably end up old and alone! I used to write shy, introverted heroines, who were too much like me to be satisfying, so now I make the ladies I write choose the difficult path every time, participating in their own rescue, giving as good as they get in all situations.

FBL ♥: Do you have any writing rituals?

Lecia: I get a large cup of coffee, two squares of 90% chocolate, and sit down to start work. I usually write about four hours a day, and rough in outlines for the next day’s chapters at night. I do a lot of mental plotting while I’m walking my dog in the afternoon. It’s amazing how fresh air, sunshine and the company of a good chocolate lab help you think better!

I write a character outline when I start a new story. It answers questions about who they are, what they want, and what their flaws and weaknesses are. Once you know these people—and they do become like family as you go through a story with them—their choices match their personality.

I have two cats who like to sit on my desk while I write, so space is always at a premium. I’ve learned that you can’t fish pages out from under a contented cat. I swear they know which documents on a messy desk covered with pages are the most essential to what you’re doing. Those are the ones they roost on.

My Thoughts:

I have been reading alot of contemporary and historical romance the past few months, I almost forgot how much I love paranormal romance. When I saw a twitter post alerting me of this free ebook, I jumped at the chance to read it. Who wouldn't want to read a free Paranormal and Holiday themed romance in one!! I was very happy that I did, although it was a quick read (29588 words), I felt the characters were well developed and the plot was well written.

My Thoughts:

I was worried that I wasn’t going to connect with the characters since this is part of an ongoing series, but I was immediately drawn into the plot from very beginning. If anything I have missed out on the learning about the other characters, but it didn’t take anything away from this page turner.

This was a true love story, their love was forbidden, Drake being the earl’s heir and Emily, the woodman’s untamed daughter. I loved the tenacity of Emily, she loved her man and she would do anything to bring him back from the dark side.
As the story unfolds we learn, Drake, a member of the “Order of St. Michael the Archangel ”, was captured and suffered months of torture which broke him deeply inside. The torturers caused his mind to swallow up many of the details of his old life as a warrior for the “Order”. But even they had never succeeded in making him forget the reason why he fought… it was because of Emily, when he would think of home he didn’t think of the mansion or his family, he thought of her, wild and free.

My Thoughts:

This is the third installment in Southern Road’s trilogy. I typically do not read a book in a series without reading all of them, but the author was able to provide enough of a background that I was able to keep up. The town of Sweetness, GA was destroyed by a tornado, and the Armstrong brothers have their mind set to rebuild the town so it can sustain any natural disaster as well as be eco-friendly. The brothers are under time restraints, if they can’t meet the deadline, the town reverts back to the government, who is providing the funding.

Marcus is the eldest. You immediately knew that he carried a lot of the burden and didn’t share his feelings or his fears very well. He has taken on the role as the leader to move the project forward, but he also has another reason for rebuilding the town it’s to fulfill a promise he made to his father to keep the Armstrong family planted in Sweetness, no matter what. Marcus has a heavy burden on his shoulders and doesn’t have time for anything or anyone to deter his focus, well that was until Alicia comes to town.

I am so honored to welcome Christine d'Abo here for an interview in celebration of her newest release, Pulled Long. I have read all the books in the Long Shots series. I enjoyed the series so much I asked Christine if she wouldn't mind doing an interview for me and she graciously agreed.

So to start I am going to share a bit about Christine with you:

Christine has been writing seriously for the past five years. When she’s not at her full time job, playing with her kids, or spending time with her husband, you can find her in front of her computer causing problems for her characters. Christine d’Abo loves writing in the worlds of science fiction, BDSM and romance. By combining the elements of those genres into tales of adventure and love, Christine creates the types of stories she loves to read. Christine is currently published with Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing, Cleis Press and Berkley.

Christine: Thank you so much for the interview, Kathy!

FBL ♥. Do you write detailed character profiles before writing, or do you find the characters come to life as you write?

Christine: I tend to plot out my characters more than I do my stories. I will get an image of a person in my head and then will begin to wonder who they are, what their family is/was like. That usually leads me to thinking about who would be the perfect foil for that individual and what he/she would also be like. The story and world building usually spiral out from that point.

Ironically enough, the character's physical appearance is the last thing I consider. In my second drafts I will normally have to go in and add things like hair and eye color, physical appearance, etc.

FBL ♥: What do you like better: when you’ve just started writing a book or when you’ve just finished one, and why?

Christine: I love starting a book! I get so excited and tend to write flat out until I hit the mid point. That's normally when I realize I don't have a character's motivation worked out or that I need to tighten up the external conflict. For me ending the book is satisfying, but means I need to do edits. This is a slow process for me...and it hurts my head LOL!

FBL ♥: What do you like to read?

Christine: I love reading pretty much anything with a solid story. I'm big on historical romances, sci-fi (hard and romance), urban fantasy and steampunk. Right now I'm reading the Hunger Games because my daughter has been after me for months to get to it. When we saw the trailer for the movie she got the book and shoved it in my hands. Loving it so far!

FBL ♥ : Christmas is just a few short weeks away, please share with us your favorite Christmas memories.

Christine: Christmas Eve in our house was always a big deal. We would go to church and then come back home and eat! My mum would always cook so many nibbly foods that me and my sister would be stuffed. We'd fall asleep mostly due to carb overload!

I loved that my mum always did that and was consistent every year. I've tried to do the same thing with my family. Every year I make the same Christmas breakfast. We are at the point that if I don't do it, I think my children would disown me!

FBL ♥ : What is next on your list? Do you already have a future project in mind?

Christine: Right now I'm working on edits for a futuristic novella that will be coming out with Ellora's Cave in early 2012. It is called Spectral Bonds, and takes place in my Eternal Bonds universe. I'm planning to do a new connected series set in that universe in the New Year.

Josh's story from the Long Shots series is nearly done. I've gone back to make some tweaks and hope to have it to my editor early 2012 as well. With luck, she will like it!

I also have a short story coming out in a Cleis Press anthology called She-Shifters. It will be released in July 2012.

FBL ♥ : On a side note, I learned a little more about the next book in the Long Shot series. It deals with Josh, Beth (the girl who was caught having sex in book 2), and a new character Oliver. My Thoughts:

I have been waiting patiently for the third book in the Long Shot series, and I was not disappointed.

Ian, along with his sisters, Paige and Sadie, own and operate a coffee house. A mysterious man has been coming in and flirting with Ian, he won’t give his name so the they coin him “Blue Eyes”. The romance between Ian and “Blue Eyes” has been building since the first book, Double Shot. In the second book, A Shot in the Dark, more is uncovered of this mysterious man and the readers find out that Blue Eyes is going through a divorce.

From the short glimpse into Ian’s life from the first two books, you could sense a troubled past or something weighing heavy on his mind. We get to dive deeper into Ian’s character and learn that he carries around guilt and the feeling that he is not worthy of love. He had a ray of hope with Blue Eyes, but once he learns of his pending divorce, the last thing Ian needs is to be another experiment for a straight guy.

A late night for Blue Eyes brings him to the coffee house, immediately you can feel the “heat” between the two. Jeff aka Blue Eyes tells Ian right off that he wants a relationship with him, a public one, not one that they have to keep hidden.

Christine d’Abo begins this one of with a sizzling hot passionate scene right from the start. It seems our Ian has a fetish ~ voyeurism, the idea of people watching was a turn on for him. I absolutely loved the “Truth or Dare”!!! Their sex scenes were Super Hot!

Jeff’s character is strong and knows what he wants; his character is perfect, he is just the one to convince Ian to stop blaming himself for the actions of others. The turning point for Ian was when Jeff gave him an ultimatum, “Get your head together before you can be with someone”.

Although, we got a small glimpse of Jeff's life, I would have like to see more details on him ~why it didn't his marriage work, his family background, and possibly more expansion on his bi-sexuality. This would have given more depth to his character.

I am now waiting for Josh's (owner of Maverick’s) story and hoping for one on Melanie (Domme from Maverick’s). The books in this series are all stand alone books, so don’t worry if you haven’t read the first two, but why miss out!!

My Thoughts:

Talk about bad karma, Hannah is having a bit of bad luck, on a much needed vacation to clear her head after being jilted by her fiance, her luggage and purse stolen and then to top it off, the man that she is meeting to show her around Coronado just happens to be the person she may have had Explosive sex with the night before. But before Hannah packs it in and returns home, she has come to Coronado, CA on a mission, one needed in order for her to get on with her life. You know how we woman are, we aren’t going to be satisfied until we confront the one who took our man!! You know size her up, is she prettier, taller…

Tanner is laying low in the female department, actually it has been eleven months since he took the oath of celibacy. If you didn’t read the first book, Tanner retired from the Secret Service after being photographed in compromising position; unfortunately due to that one moment, he is carrying around plenty of guilt, having a death of an agent and a close call of his friend weighing heavy on his mind. I enjoy reading anthologies, the short stories are a perfect after reading a lengthy novel. It also gives me a chance experience different authors and their writing styles. In Holiday Hideout, there are three stories focusing around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve. All three stories are center around a cabin, a place where the owners are trying to scientifically prove that all those who stay in the cabin either fall in love or rekindle their love.

My Thoughts:

If you have been following along on my blog, you know that I go sappy for Christmas stories and movies. Last week, I searched through my TBR pile and I found one that I hadn’t read before, Must Love Mistletoe by Christie Ridgway. It was almost like a V-8 moment, what was I waiting for, I should have read this book sooner.

I always like reading about first loves and how life has a way of coming full circle and bringing them back together. In this holiday themed story, our heroine, Bailey hates everything to do with Christmas, so when she is asked to come back and run her family’s store, The Perfect Christmas, she is counting down the days until she can high tail it back to Los Angeles. What she wasn’t expecting is to run into her first love, her first lover, Finn. Unlike most romance stories, Bailey is the one who ended the relationship, leaving without saying a word. Her motto: “Get out before it gets ugly”. Our hero, Finn, well he may be all hot and rough and mean, but he is still the boy in love with the GND (Girl Next Door).

There were a few sub plots going on in this book too, but not too many that took away from the main story line. The next book in the series is Not Another New Year’s, I knew from some of the interaction between the secondary characters there was something sizzling between them. You don't want to miss my review on that book!!!!

This is a romantic comedy of reuniting with first love, second chances at love and happiness. I won’t lie to you, along with the laughing there were a few tears shed, too. There are some HOT graphic love scenes, so turn down the heater and turn on the air. This is a great read, and I recommend it to anyone hoping for a little spice this holiday season.

My Thoughts:

Ok, I admit, I am a Harlequin Blaze junkie, I need my fix every month and if the book is by Leslie Kelly all the better!! Not only is her latest HQ Blaze a Christmas tale, the storyline is about one of my favorite themes- soul mates, separated by circumstances and brought back together by fate. The timing was off the first time around, with a chance encounter six years later, can these two find love the second time around?

It can be tricky for a writer to blend the past with the present, it needs to be seamless to the reader so they don't feel disconnected with the characters and are unable to keep up with the storyline. What worked for me? ~ how Leslie Kelly alternated the chapters between the past and the present. By using this method, the characters were well developed, as though reading about them they were more realistic.

My Thoughts:

This was a great mix of holiday stories, sometimes there is maybe one or two books that can carry an anthology with the others not holding my attention or have a lack of a story line that holds my attention. I was presently surprised that each book had a strong enough storyline to hold my attention.

Each book is a stand alone book being reissued into one. Some stood out more for me but I enjoyed reading each one. I wasn’t as familiar with some of the authors, having only read Alison Kent and Jaci Burton prior.

My Thoughts:

I didn’t think anyone could be sexier than Ford, well I stand corrected. I fell Head over Heels in love with Sawyer. Never underestimate the quiet ones; Sawyer’s reminded me of candy, all strong on the outside and gooey on the inside. We knew so little about him in the first two books, he seemed reserved, often aloof, extremely guarded about his private life. All it took was the Wild Child to chip away at his seemingly impenetrable exterior! Before I go any further, there is one hell of a sexy shower scene, which I am still trying to unfog my glasses!!!

My thoughts:

Like a true romance, Tess and Owen are two of the most unlikely souls imaginable who turn out to be the most perfect of mates. Alone, the hero and heroine are incomplete – they both hide behind shame of their past. Together, they are complete - they fit together like the proverbial pieces of a puzzle. Of course, both need to face and deal with their issues to reach their ultimate destination - and it is that very journey that I love. Well Done!!

Tess has been married and widowed three times. Her first marriage was to her best friend, a man who fought for reforming politics; she continued on with his cause to fight to alleviate violence, poverty and misery. Her second marriage left her with a tainted past and a fear of any thought of intimacy. Her third marriage, left her with stepchildren, for a woman branded as selfish, manipulative and a bad influence, it was a selfless act on her part to give up those children so she didn’t damage their future. When those she loves are threatened, is she willing to risk another marriage to put them out of harm’s way?

Owen, is the best kind of hero, he is one that helps her face the past and helps her break through the fears of intimacy. He was patient and caring, he didn’t pressure her and made her set the pace. While doing that, she helps him deal with his own past demons. Owen has been haunted for years about an incident buried deep.

I found itrefreshing that almost every page had the two leading characters interacting,sometimes you find an author tends to keep them separated for so much of thebook, building the drama up, and that writing leaves me disconnected andwanting more. Their attraction was instance and seeing their relationshipblossom was touching. Trusting for Tesswas difficult, but as soon as Tess trusted Owen, she knew itwas time to stop running.

“I enjoy your company too much to waste the day spending it without you.”

“I love you,” she said. “I love you so much. You made me whole again.”

There were secondary characters which infuriated me. I especially didn’t like Joanna in this book, she came across spoiled and vindictive. I wanted to slap her and tell her to grow up, she has the man of her dreams, Alex. Why would she be so petty and have Tess doubt Owen’s feelings? I am so glad Owen and Tess cleared this up before it came a wedge between them. I didn’t really understand the need for Emma, it was like she was put in there to fill some space. Her character was one dimensional; I wish there were more mentioned of the relationship between her and Tom, that may have helped. If these characters were in the last book, it would have been helpful to add a snippet of their past so new readers understood. The last I knew of Tom was in Mistress at Midnight, so there is a big gap for me.

The least favorite part was the ending, I won’t give you the details but I will say when I got to the last part of the book which was building up to HEA, a unexpected curve was thrown in, which came across as being put together hastily.

There were some other parts of the book which I wished were tidied up:
What happened with her stepchildren?
Why did they never play a part after Owen took care of Corwen?
There was no further mention of Justin, what happened with him?

Other than a few of the issues I described above, I enjoyed Tess and Owen’s love story. I enjoy Nicola Cornick’s writing style and consider her an author that will always be on my TBR list. I would recommend this book for those true die hard romance fans, who believes in HEA.

Prior to my reading Desired, the only book in the series I have read was Mistress of Midnight. While, I agree that the books can be standalone, now having read Desired, I think having more of a background of Owen's relationship with Joanna, Whisper of Scandal, would have been helpful.

Two cross star lovers from the past who meet again in the present. Will their romance turn out any different this time around, or are they destined to remain apart? A superb job was done merging both the past with the present in this page turner. The heroine, Laine, uncovers her past in her dreams, by reliving her suppressed memories. Just when you think our heroine’s life could not be any more horrid there is yet another chapter that divulges more of her past.

The hero, Christien, is the last one standing between life and the end of the world, in order to protect the “treasure” he was given eternal life. Evil follows him throughout the years, and he must make decisions that not only protect the “treasure” but Laine.

“I had a mission and it was all I concentrated on. Finish my mission and I could die for there was no thought of living without you.”

Sherryl Woods brings back the O'Brien Family just in time for Christmas. What’s better than spending Christmas with the O’Brien’s? Taking the entire family and spending it in Ireland. Well, if you have been a fan of the Chesapeake Shores series, you know that love is always in the air. It’s a family known for meddling and matchmaking.

In the last book, Beach Lane, Laila Riley kept her relationship with Matthew O’Brien hidden; she was worried how society and especially her father would react to the age difference between the two of them, Laila being older than Matt. She doubted that Matt had changed his playboy ways and in the end she broke things off. I didn’t like Laila in the last book. If she had truly loved him, no obstacle or prejudice should have stood in the way. When the going gets tough, she bailed.

I love my Kindle, but I find myself missing.... bookmarks. I don’t want to confuseanyone, I know that my Kindle can save my place wherever I stopreading and I can also add additional bookmarks throughout the ebook.

I didn’t set out tocollect bookmarks it just happened, in my childhood I would normally received abook either for my birthday and/or for Christmas; with each book there would alwaysbe a bookmark tucked in between the pages. So, I was slowly accruing a collection ofbookmarks over the years. Each one was eitherwhimsical or unique in its own way.

Over time, I found myself buying them whenever I came across, if they were free the better. Why didn’t I just use the ones I already had? Well like the black hole or the one missing sock syndrome, I managed to lose them quite often. So then I needed to be creative, sometimes they were business cards, receipts, paperclips, a matchbook cover, basically anything that was around, once I used a toothpick.

Why not just bend back the page I was stopping at? I spent a large part of my childhood in the school or public library, where I learned to treat each book kindly, back then those books were not my propriety, and above all,

You Do Not Write in Books and You Don’t Dog Ear the Pages.

I also miss the fact that with bookmarks, I could quickly tell at a glance how far I have read and how much furtheruntil the ending.

I still love my Kindle, there are just a few things I miss. to be continued...

The ghost of his mother, who still has plenty to say about her son's judgment (or lack thereof). Joel has to get the RV to San Francisco, get rid of Lincoln, and get back to Philip. It would also make him feel better if he learned what's keeping his mother tied to this earthly plane. However Joel manages it, the route is likely to be anything but straight.

My thoughts:

I took away so much more than I think the author may have intended, I say that in a good way. Have you ever had a dialogue in a movie, or the words in a song reach you in a place so deeply hidden behind the walls you have built to protect your fragile soul? Well, this book did it for me and honestly, I don't know why it affected me the way it did.

Detours is about saying goodbye and moving on. It was so profound it took me a bit to be able to put what I was feeling into words. By the middle of the book I had this foreboding feeling of something I didn’t want to face and by the last few chapters I had tightness in my chest and my eyes began to blur. I couldn’t put a name to it, it was a path I didn’t want to continue. I tried to ignore it at first but the truth of the matter, I have been putting it off, it was saying “goodbye”.

While reading this, it brought a slew of feelings of loss, loneliness, grief, and finality, ones I have put high upon a shelf. Feelings I have locked away, not wanting to deal with them. I felt the pain of mourning when reading the pages of what Joel’s was facing when he was saying goodbye to his friendship with Matt and Carrie, never knowing if he would ever get back to see them, leaving his beloved dog behind and, after just beginning to build a bond with his father after his mother’s death, he struggles with never knowing if he would ever get back to Maine to visit.

I love the dialogue between Joel and his mother, it was witty and heartwarming. I enjoyed everything about this book, it made me think of all the friends I have met and have promised to keep in touch with but never did and how quickly they have drifted away without barely a struggle, life is fragile never knowing when it will be the last time you will see someone. Don’t put off telling those around you how you feel and live each day doing things you enjoy, get out of the dead end job, get out of the unfaithful marriage, step outside your comfort zone. Life is meant to be enjoyed, explored, expanded and lived!!!

This was a great read, do yourself a favor and go out and buy this book!!

My Thoughts:

The two things that make a great book, no matter what the genre, are a strong female character and a passionate, sensual leading man. You find them both in this book. In the first book, Double Shot (see my review) the author introduced Paige. We didn’t know much about her other than she along with Sadie and Ian run a coffee shop.

In this short novella, the author gives us more of an in-depth look into Paige. When Paige was young, she entered into a DOM relationship, not knowing much about them, she didn't know that it actually was an very abusive one. It’s been three years and she is still rather shaky of entering into another one, even though she is a lot wiser this time around. One night Carter shows up at the coffee house and he is determined to change her mind. He coaxes Paige to face her fears; he is patient and teaches her even as a sub she can still control the outcome.

I learned a few things in this book, like whoever would have guessed “peas” could be a sexual turn on? LOL. The sex scenes were erotic but not over the top, there was some light bondage, nothing to rough or out of control.

Carter is the perfect, super-hot hero, and did I mention that he is also a HOT fireman!! I thought it was endearing when he would take time out of his day to text Paige, made me love him even more.

You can’t go wrong with the Long Shot series, I can't wait for Ian's story, Pulled Long, this is due out in December, we were again left with cliffhanger between him and Blue Eyes.

My Thoughts:

The story centers around hidden secrets. These secrets were put into place twelve years ago to protect the innocent, over the years these secrets eventually led to telling lies and the consequences of these events has now become a tangled mess. It took our young heroine, Merryn, to put the wheels in motion to unravel them. She would not rest until she found out what really happened regarding her brother’s death, putting at risk all the secrets our hero, Garrick has protected. Garrick has kept the secrets of what really happened on the night that he is best friend is killed. For Garrick, these secrets have brought shame, guilt and unworthiness. And by not dealing with them, he has carried them into the future. He believed what he had done had made unworthy of love.

In the midst of uncovering the truth, there was passion and romance between Merryn and Garrick. Two people, who found love and a sense of completeness, while both struggling with secrets: he to keep them and her to reveal them. As Merryn moved closer to the truth, she becomes open her mind to other possibilities of what really happened. In doing so, Merryn was finally able to see Garrick as he truly was, an honorable man who had been in an intolerable situation, who had made mistakes and tried to make reparation. The sparks ignite right from the start. The love scenes were filled with passion and sizzled right off the pages.

If you have been following me for awhile, you know I love to use quotes in my reviews, which gave me an idea. Why don't I write a post spotlighting other great quotes, these will be one from books I have read or those I find on my fellow bloggers site (I will send kudo's your way). I would also like to use ones that mean something to you, so if you would like me to use a quote, just

Looking back at some of the books I read in 2011, I can't help but mention Julia Quinn's, The Bridgerton series. I just began reading historical romance this year when I participated in a reading challenge. At first, I was apprehensive, but I have to say, I fell in love with the family and their lives. The Bridgerton series consists of eight siblings finding their purpose and the love of their lives.

I found myself laughing and crying... Julia Quinn has the ability to write the words of "love". You know what I mean, the ones you want your sweetheart or your husband to say to you. In each one of her books she creates "the moment" when the characters express their love for one another, and each time, she nails it. They are all written in a way that touches you deep within your heart. Who wouldn't want these said to them?

My Thoughts:

Her Christmas Pleasure was a hot short novella. Did it put me in the Christmas spirit after reading it, No. But it did make me wish for someone like Damien underneath my tree. Hopefully Santa will get my letter and grant my Christmas Wish. ♥

The basic premise of the story is one which has been repeated time and again. Man secretly lusts after woman, woman is married to his best friend. There are a couple of twists to this one: it’s set in the 1800’s, the woman is now a widow and the storyline doesn’t drag along at sluggish pace, the whole will they or won’t they game. In the span of eight chapters, they share their feelings, act on their attraction, and they go off and live HEA. THE END.

Now with any Karen Erickson’s books, she creates the most delicious love scenes. The tension leading up to Damien’s and Celia’s first kiss under the mistletoe leaves some sparks, simmering until the love scenes, which are explosive and wickedly erotic.

If you in the mood for a romantic sizzling novella, you won’t go wrong reading this.

My Thoughts:
This is the final book in the series. Hands down this is my favorite. I have been waiting for Caelen and Rionna’s story I hoped it would be explosive .. It was that and more… I loved every aspect of the book, the plot, the characters , the romance, the battles and the hot, sensual sex scenes…. My kindle was filled with highlights and notes throughout… see below as I added my favorite quotes which made me shiver.

In the first two books, we learned there was an arranged marriage planned between the McCabe and the McDonald’s clan, in order to form an alliance. Rionna McDonald not only got jilted once by the eldest McCabe brother, Ewan, she then was jilted by Alaric. Caelen, the youngest, stepped up to wed Rionna, how could he refuse to do the one thing that would solidify a union that would bring about the destruction of a man hated by him and his brothers.

Rionna is a bold, courageous warrior, doing what she can to keep her clan alive. Caelen, is tormented on a past that threatened his clan, and has closed himself off in exposing his heart again.

Love required sacrifice. It required trust and faith. It required making yourself completely vulnerable to the one you loved. The last time he’d offered a woman his complete trust and faith, she’d destroyed his clan.

My Thoughts:

Seduced by Her Highland Warrior continues where the first book in the series, Claimed by the Highland Warrior left off. I was waiting to finally learn more about Alex and Laren. Their story is different from many historical romance books I have read, with the main characters being married and dealing with some hard issues which have caused them to grow apart.

Alex is the chief and trying to rebuild his keep, but to me, this is the secondary storyline in this page turning book. The real story is the about dealing and coping after the emotional loss of a child. When their young infant son died, a part of them has died too, a vital part of them has been ripped away and each dealing with it their own way. They stopped communicating and drifted apart, no longer connecting emotionally, physically, and sexually with each other.

My Thoughts:

I put off reading Falke's Captive thinking it was a short story with no depth; I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This is book two in the Puma Night series; you don’t need to read the first book to enjoy this one. Though, I now want to go back and read the first book, Falke's Peak and meet the two older brothers, Alex and Gunnar.

You quickly learn the Falke family is unique, not only are there eight in the family: a set of quadruplets, and a set of triplets but they are Shifters. Then add in the element they must mate in pairs, two brothers for one woman and you have a very HOT book!! WOW!!! There is more to this book then a ménage relationship.

My Thoughts:

Giuliana (Jules) fulfilled both wishes of her parents, at sixteen her mom’s dying wish was for her take care of her younger sisters, and her at her father’s deathbed he asked her to come back home and help her sisters save the family winery. She had to be strong and controlling and push aside her needs and wants to see things through. I had a love hate relationship with her. I understand that for her to avoid any more heartache she had to distances herself from Liam, but the more the storyline unfolded, I didn’t get why she kept her self so guarded even still.

Now Liam was also a difficult character for me to warm up to. He is closed off, never letting anyone to close to him. He has been feeling guilty most of his life, hiding his father’s little secret for years; it’s not until his father passes when they are exposed. He would do anything not to be like his father, and he does this but shutting himself off. This has been working for him, well, until Jules returns. He first and only true love, but will their secrets of their youth bring them closer or separate them forever?

She and Liam had history, what it was we never knew, but boy did we find out in this story. I am trying to write this where I don’t let alot slip out, I am not one to write spoilers. Don’t you hate it when someone tells you how the book ends?

My thoughts:

What a thrilling start to a new series (Lord of Midnight) from Cara Elliott. Too Wicked To Wed is the first book in the series. We are introduced to three men who have become friends while fighting in Portugal. They have made a name for themselves, they are known simply as the Hellhounds. Connor is the Irish Wolfhound, Gryff is known as Deerhound, and Cam is Bloodhound.

Connor, the Earl of Killingworth, owns the Wolf's Lair, a gaming hell and brothel. Someone is out to financially ruin Wolf's Lair. And, talk about having things go from bad to worse, now someone is out to kill him. He has never been known to put faith in other people, even his fellow Hellhounds. Now suddenly, he is surrounded by people willing to come to his aid to track down the person who wants to harm him.

From the beginning you knew Lady Alexa Hendrie was not your typical young lady of the ton awaiting yet another season. Not her, fashion and flirting seemed so utterly...boring. As did all the gentlemen she knew. We first meet our daring heroine as she is contemplating masquerading as a man to play cards at the Wolf's Lair. She knows her cards and lady luck is on her side that night, as she ends up walking away with more than just money.

The banter between the two main characters is great, hilarious at times. Alexa isn't afraid to tell it like it is and can hold her own against Connor. Although, Connor has had many torrid affairs, he has always been detached from them. Until Alexa, she had from their first meeting exasperated and enthralled him.

After escaping flying bullets, slashing knifes, Alexa and Connor escape to his family home to try to figure out who is out to kill him. Being hidden away, Alexa starts getting not only under Connor's skin but also in his heart, a place he had always thought impenetrable. It frightened him to his very core. When they finally succumb to the attraction simmering between them- it is explosive, it is so intense you feel it down to your toes!! Yes, it is that HOT!!!! The scenes were erotic without being too lewd.

After the threat on Alexa's life, Connor finally admitted to himself that Alexa was his ray of light and the prospect of his life coming full circle.

"I have taken a great many gambles in my life, but I would never risk losing you."

"A house needs more than polishing and dusting to make it a home, she whispered. "Yes, I know. It needs love."

The story picks up the pace as they are tracking down the person who is trying to kill Connor. I like the added mystery and the who-done-it aspect the author introduced, it kept the pages turning.

There were some parts of the story which I felt need closure or more depth. For instance, Alexa's family was never concerned or noticed that she disappeared? Or what about her brother, he was mentioned quite often in the book, but he never appeared.

Now I am curious to read Gryff and Cam's stories. I have never read Cara Elliott work before, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love books which have more than just romance, throw in a little intrigue and you have a great combination for any reader's interest.

My thoughts:
To simply say I loved this book is an understatement. Jill Shalvis knocks this one out of the park. (for you avid baseball fans- the World Series wrapped up last night). We return to Sunshine, Idaho. Even the name makes you feel warm and happy. This is the second in the Animal series.

Our hero, Dell is the perfect alpha male, he's strong, dark and brutally handsome. Dell doesn't let many get too close to him, why would he? He has a long history of those around him abandoning him. As a small child, his mother left him, his father died, and then he gets carted around from one foster family to the next. He has the typical commitment phobia. It was the attachment that he avoided, that would take trust and blind faith accessing parts of him that he didn’t allow himself to access.

Our heroine, Jade, has inner demons of her own. Eighteen months ago she was attacked and instead of facing her fears, she ran away. She ended up in Sunshine and into Del's life. She is only there temporarily, no need letting anyone get close to her and know her hidden fears. I couldn't help but chuckle over her compulsive disorder of having a spreadsheet for everything, she sounded a little like me.

My thoughts:

If you love sexy highlanders, strong female heroines, a dash of drama and a smidgen or two of some awesome sex scenes, you will not be disappointed. It was hard for me not to put the book down and read it all through the night. For those of you that are interested in history, Ms. Mallory adds a number of nuggets of historical data in the back of the book.

In the first book of the Highlander series, 'The Guardian', we were introduced to the four highlanders who have been friends since childhood: Connor, Ian, Alex and Duncan. After learning of his father's death Connor must take his place as chieftain. In order to solidify his clan, Connor asked his cousin Alex to enter into a marriage alliance with a neighboring clan. Alex would do anything Connor asks of him, but marriage, he had the wrong guy.

“I’d take a blade for Connor,” Alex said, losing his humor, “but I’ll no take a wife for him.”

The first book is by Jill Shalvis, ‘Kissing Santa Claus’, it is a subplot from her Lucky Harbor series. Logan is the ex-husband of Tara, Sweetest Thing. Logan is a race car driver, while in visiting Lucky Harbor he had a ‘one week holy-shit hot affair’ with the town clerk, Sandy.

My Thoughts:

This was the first book in a series of three. I didn't love it, but I didn’t hate it. The characters were two dimensional and not well developed. There were many questions left unanswered, certain plot developments were glossed over, which would have given the book more depth.

Sadie came across as very insecure and very naïve; two traits that I don’t particular like in a leading character. Sadie has been in “lust” for her friend’s ex boyfriend, Paul, for 10 years; Paul has had similar feelings, neither one acting on them. They skirted around the issue for ten years, this was rather hard to believe. As close as they were, neither one of them....

My thoughts:

Simply Irresistible

I don't think there is a better name that describes this book- it's SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE. From the first chapter, I was hooked. Humor, romance, and plenty of hot sex- three ingredients to make this a WINNER!!!

Tara, Maddie and Chloe, three half sisters who are strangers, but stay together as family. Growing up apart from one another, each with a different father, they reunite after their mom's death. They are brought together to deal with the "inn" they inherited from their mom. Each sister has their own quirks, Chloe, the youngest is "wild child", Maddie, the "mouse" is the middle child- the approval seeker, and Tara the "steel magnolia", the southern, snobby perfectionist. Each struggling with their own demons, and together they create a bond that can't be unbroken. It was a hoot reading the interaction between the sisters.
